These MapJet terms add to the Substrio platform terms for the use of MapJet, the maps and location service of Substrio. Words defined in the platform terms mean the same here. Where these terms and the platform terms differ on MapJet, these terms govern; everywhere else, the platform terms govern.
1.What these terms cover
With MapJet, we serve vector map tiles, styles and embeddable maps, address search, IP geolocation and time zones, and store the places and map layers you upload. These terms cover every request your apps and their end users make to MapJet, and every result returned.
2.Data sources and licenses
MapJet's results are built from open data. Each source is published under a license, and that license applies to your use of the results built from it:
- Map tiles: built by us from OpenStreetMap data (a Protomaps build), under the Open Database License (ODbL).
- IP geolocation: DB-IP's IP to City Lite database, under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 license (CC BY 4.0).
- US addresses: Netsyms' AddressDatabase, under its publisher's license.
- Time zones: tz-lookup's tables, built from timezone-boundary-builder, under their publishers' licenses.
Open data can be incomplete or wrong. We serve it as its sources publish it and do not warrant that a place, an address, a boundary, a time zone or an IP location is accurate or current. Do not rely on MapJet's results alone where an error could cause harm, such as emergency dispatch or the navigation of vehicles.
3.Required attribution
Wherever MapJet's results appear in your app, show the credit each source requires, legible and not hidden:
- on every map: © OpenStreetMap contributors, linked to the OpenStreetMap copyright page;
- wherever an IP geolocation result appears: IP Geolocation by DB-IP, linked to db-ip.com.
Our embeddable maps show the map credit, and the tileset description includes it for any map you build; keep that credit visible, or show the same credit yourself. The ODbL also requires that a database you derive from OpenStreetMap data and share publicly is offered under the ODbL.
4.No bulk scraping or tile harvesting
We serve maps and lookups for your end users' use of your apps. You may not:
- download or prefetch tiles in bulk, for an area, a zoom range or the whole set, beyond what your end users' maps load as they view them;
- harvest search, geolocation or time zone results systematically, such as by walking address ranges, IP ranges or a grid of points, to build a copy of MapJet's data;
- serve MapJet's tiles or results to others as a map or location service in your name;
- remove or obscure attribution, or the MapJet name on embedded maps.
Where you need a whole dataset, take it from its source under its license.
5.Caching
Tiles may be cached as their HTTP cache headers allow. Each tile's address includes its release, so we serve a tile with a cache lifetime of a year, and a new import of the data gets new addresses. We serve the tileset description (tiles.json) uncached, so a map always loads the current release. Browsers, your apps and your CDN may cache tiles and styles within these headers; you do not cache tiles past them or serve a cached set apart from your app.
6.Storing geocoding and location results
You may store the results of address search, IP geolocation and time zone lookups in your apps' records, for as long as you need them, to run your app for your end users: for example the coordinates of an address a customer entered, or the city of a sign-in. You keep the attribution its source requires wherever a stored result appears.
You may not store results in order to build a database that replaces MapJet or that you sell, license or give to others, and you may not resell stored results.
An IP location is an estimate, usually to a city, not the place a device is. You do not use it to find, track or identify an individual, and you comply with the law that applies to location data, including the consent it requires.
7.Your places and map layers
The places, locations and map layers you upload to MapJet are customer data and stay yours. You need the right to upload them and to show them on your maps. A map you embed on a page is visible to everyone who can open that page; embed only what may be shown there.
